Keeping Well

As a new mum it is important to take good care of yourself, as well as of your baby. Breastfeeding and making breast milk also has health benefits for you. The more you breastfeed, the greater the benefits.

Breastfeeding lowers your risk of:

  • breast cancer
  • ovarian cancer
  • osteoporosis (weak bones)
  • cardiovascular disease
  • obesity

Socialising and spending time with other parents and friends/family can provide great psychological benefits. Having a new baby can be tiring and very hard work. Try and reward yourself by meeting up with some friends who also have children and remind yourself of how well you are doing.

If you are breastfeeding and expressing your milk then it is important to do so safely. The video below informs you how to do so.
